Beldon Briefings 28 July 2023

Issue 45

From the Principal

Our Term has got off to a wonderful start with a number of opportunities to celebrate the amazing community here at Beldon PS.

Last week we recognised NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee). Students across all year levels from Kindy to Pre-primary participated in activities that enhanced their understanding of Aboriginal history, culture and achievements. The theme this year was ‘For our Elders’. Some of our older students watched an interesting video titled ‘Understanding Eldership’, if you are interested in finding out more you can access the video here: NAIDOC Week 2023 Resources & Activities | Australians Together.

This week we have had our annual Book Fair and Book Week Parade. This is the first year that the P&C have taken on the task of organising and running the Book Fair. We appreciate the efforts that went into making this a successful event. Thank you also to everyone that came in and made a purchase from the fair, a percentage of the sales from books and merchandise comes back to the school to purchase more books for our students. The parade on Thursday was such a fun event. As usual our staff and students looked spectacular in their costumes. We trialled a new format in the Undercover Area this year, with a high likelihood of rain being on the radar. It was a cosy event but we remained dry. The excitement of the school community was palpable! What a wonderfully joyous way to celebrate books!

On Wednesday we held our Learning Journey. Rooms were filled with families finding out more about the learning that is happening here at Beldon. It was great to see such a big turn out of family members and to see the pride that children were demonstrating as they showed off their hard work. We are so fortunate to have such diligent and dedicated teachers and EAs at our school and I know you will join me in thanking them for all the effort that went into making this afternoon so special.

The term ahead looks to continue on in a busy manner, we have a number of sporting events coming up, starting with the School Cross Country next Friday. Be sure to check out the Sports News section and our website for more details about the event. Later in the term we will have our faction carnivals, as well as a variety of other events. Please keep an eye on Facebook, Connect and the school website for up to date information about upcoming events.

Yours in Education

Working With Children Check
We thank all our parents who generously volunteer their time and energy to support our school community. There are some changes to the Working with Children Check policy, to ensure the safety of children when we have volunteers in the school.

In most circumstances, a parent who would like to volunteer at our school does not need a Working With Children Check, however you will now need to sign a ‘Parent and child volunteer declaration form’ which is available in the front office at school. You will only need to fill out this form on an annual basis. You cannot volunteer if you have a current Working with Children Negative Notice or Interim Negative Notice.

If your circumstances change, and you are issued with a Negative Notice or Interim Negative Notice after completing the ‘Parent and child volunteer declaration form’, you must advise the principal.
A current Working with Children Check is required by all other family members and friends over 18 years of age who want to volunteer.
It is a collective responsibility to ensure the safety of our children. We appreciate your ongoing support and dedication to our school community.

Learning Journey
On Wednesday we had a wonderful afternoon of celebration. Our Learning Journey was a great opportunity for our families to come in and see the amazing work being done by our students and teachers. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. Thank you also to our wonderful P&C for organising the Subway lunch.

Book Week Parade
What an exciting event our Book Week Parade was! The staff and students looked incredible in their costumes. Mainstream and ESC students and staff paraded in our undercover area, cheered on by a large audience of family members. Thank you to everyone for the great effort that went into the costumes. Money raised through the gold coin donations goes towards registering two teams in the ‘Write a Book in a Day’ competition later this term.
